Using and caring for your water filter
How does an Earths Water filtration system work?
Fill the top with tap water. Gravity draws it down through the cartridge, and filtered water collects below, ready to pour into a glass, the kettle or a drink bottle.
How do I set up my water filter for the first time?
Hand wash the body, reservoir and lid with a soft cloth or sponge, then rinse and let them dry. Soak the cartridge upright, fully under water, for ten minutes. Rinse it under running water for ten seconds, turn it over and rinse again. Push and twist it into the reservoir, then fill and pour away two to three full reservoirs before you drink. Why is the first water grey?
That is carbon from a new cartridge, and it is normal. It clears as you flush two to three full reservoirs through. If you still see grey or black specks, keep flushing until the water runs clear.
Can I put hot water in my water filter?
No. Fill it with cold or room temperature water only, never hot or warm water.
How do I clean my water filter?
Hand wash the body, reservoir and lid with a soft cloth or sponge, and rinse well. Skip bleach, strong cleaning products and scourers. Earths Water filters are not dishwasher safe.
How long does a cartridge last?
An Earths Water cartridge lasts up to 350 litres or 3 months, whichever comes first. For a household of four drinking 2 litres each a day, that is about every six weeks. Put cartridges on subscription and the next one arrives before you need it.
Should I wait before topping it up?
Yes. Let the reservoir empty through the cartridge before you add more water.
What if my cartridge dries out?
Keep enough water in the body that the bottom of the cartridge stays in contact with it. If the cartridge has been dry for two days, soak it in water for ten minutes before you put it back.
What should I do when I go away?
Keep the cartridge wet: put it in a sealed bag in the fridge until you are home. If filtered water has been sitting in the body for several days, pour it out and refill with fresh tap water.
